I’m a real believer of health is wealth, because it’s so important that we look after ourselves, make time for the things we enjoy and ensure that we are in good health. The main factors we’d think of first are diet, lifestyle, work, relationships, friends and family but it’s also about taking time to be present and enjoy being in the moment. Make sure that you surround yourself with good people, you look forward to your job and you prioritise eating a range of healthy foods that you enjoy 🙂
If you’ve got any aches, pains or simply haven’t been feeling well for a while, book in with your Doctor or see a specialist who might be able to help. I know it may be easier said than done, it’s one thing saying something and another thing to actually go and do it but when it comes to your health, it’s so important to put yourself first.
Something as simple as being mindful can make such a big difference to our lives. When life gets hectic, take a moment to be mindful.
Try this exercise:
Sit alone and set a 5 minute timer
Take 3 deep breaths inhaling and exhaling fully.
Focusing on your breath,
When you loose concentration, bring yourself back to the present moment. Notice how your body feels, the air around you, your stomach moving in and out.
Just a little reminder to take care of yourself ❤️
It’s crazy to think that we are almost half way through the year. It seems like it has gone quick but at the same time a lot has happened and we have all been through so much especially with the virus and lockdown restrictions. It seems so normal talking about it now, but this time last year everything was so uncertain and there was a lot of anxiety about the situation. Hopefully we can look forward to a positive new normal.
The virus has been quite a big distraction this year. There is always a news story on the TV and of recent, the new strain. I feel like there is still a lot of things that I would like to achieve this year so I’ve definitely got to stay focused on my goals. It sometimes seems difficult to achieve them but no matter what as long as I keep trying on what I want, it should work out. Setting goals is always fun and easy but ticking them off is the harder part.
We are finally in the Spring season which is so beautiful, waking up early, hearing the birds chirp in the morning, the bright skies and longer days are so appreciated I feel like it goes so well with my mood and I’ve got to make the most of it. However, this week has been so so rainy, literally everyday I’ve needed my rain coat and umbrella because rain has been forecast and its rained every day without fail.
Last week, I had my first meal out since October, can you imagine? Over 6 months since I was at a restaurant. It was only outside dining at the time and although it was a little rainy, we were under shelter and it wasn’t too cold. I had the Naked Katsu, which was brown rice, grated carrot, pickled raddish, lettuce and edamame beans, all very tasty. Along with a cloudy lemonade.
It’s actually been a little while since I have baked/cooked something as I’ve been occupied with other things but I can’t wait to start planning new recipes and creating new things in the kitchen.
I’ve spent a few hours this morning alone in my own thoughts which was really nice. I feel like recently I’ve been making myself feel so busy and not fully taking the time for myself to just be. Although I do spend time on meditation, yoga, working out and reading, I haven’t allowed time for my mind to just wonder, reflect and be present because I’m constantly thinking what’s next.
Also, here on ablovesfood.com I have spent so much time dedicating my posts to food and I really miss the self growth and inspirational posts. I’ll definitely be committing myself to freewriting more as we can all be connected through many different things.
In life we can have so many distractions and we just forget to enjoy life and remember the true meaning/purpose for why we started something. I think I felt like in order for my blog to grow, I had to commit to only writing about cooking and baking but I’m also on a journey in life which includes many other things that I would like to incorporate into this space. Anyway, my morning has been so peaceful and relaxing but I think it’s time I got up and started my day.
This year has been very eventful and its finally coming to an end, but not before we celebrate Christmas and the New Year. Although December is a time of food, drinks, and general indulgence, it is important not to over do it.
Here are some tips to staying (somewhat) healthy:
Stick to a daily workout, something you enjoy and will look forward to.
Cut out the added sugar in your drinks.
Don’t feel forced to eat everything you are offered
Eat more vegetables and salads in your meals to avoid snacking throughout the day.
Opt for low sugar, salt and fat varieties.
I’ve really enjoy posting recipes again on WordPress and it’s been a great challenge for me to keep consistent and remain creative in the kitchen. Thanks to all of my new followers 🙂
I probably won’t be posting on here until the New Year, so I’ll see you in 2021!!
I thought I would post to highlight this time we are currently living in. There is a lot of injustice going on all around the world towards Black people and it really is time for a change. It’s so upsetting to know that these murder’s are still going on right before our eyes and there is almost nothing that can be done to stop it. When you research Black history, (you often see a lot of negative things) but there has been so so many positive, amazing achievements that we are never taught in school. Not much has really changed in terms of racism it’s just all over social media. It is important to remember that this is not a normal thing to do, a person should not be targeted just because of the colour of their their skin.
Please don’t be ignorant towards racism, do your research, educate yourself and start having conversations with all races.
